What can we say folks. We haven't been slacking on the reports for the sake of good fishing, rather the lack of anything interesting to say. The South Holston is still fishing well don't get me wrong, but its the same thing day in day out and the only variable is the weather. So, you want the breakdown that will carry us into march...?
Here ya go: Fish a 22 BWO emerger trailed by either a 22 black fly larva or non-flashy midge pattern. Make sure you're on the bottom and us an indicator that is small and not that bright. On super bright days, stay home unless you really like fishing egg patterns. On overcast days, head to the river a few minutes early, stop at Webb Grocery for a good warm meal, and keep on truckin. When you get there bundle up and fish exactly what I said above until you see the heads start coming up consistently. Then switch to a 20 BWO pattern and trail a black fly larva off the back with 7x tippet.
This is winter fishing on the South Holston in low water. Stay warm, enjoy, and we'll see ya in a week or two.
