The South Holston is really starting to come alive. It's still a bit early for the sulphers, but we're starting to see a few. Your best bet is still sub-surface, but the fish are feeding very well. We're talking a 16 pheasant tail and trailing a 22-24 zebra midge. They're taking the midge 8 out of 10 times though.
The smallie fishing on the Lower Holston is excellent right now. If the barometer is stable, be out there from 11am-dark and expect to have fish stacked up on gravel bars. The early spawn is upon us and they'll be in full swing shortly, but the fishing will be good thru this weekend. It'll be mostly juvenile fish after that, for about 2 weeks, but by the end of the month, the big boys will be back to play!
