Little Truckee River:  Winter Regs-Between Boca & Stampede-Catch & Release Only!

The Little Truckee is open all the way to Stampede.  Flows are at 185cfs and anglers should start to see fishing pick up here.  Now that flows have been bumped up throwing a san juan worm or a glo bug is producing now.  Nymphing Stoneflies with small baetis and midge patterns behind them will also produce now.  Old reliables such as birds nest, princes, zug bugs, pheasant tails, and hares ears are also good bets.  Hatches have been small stoneflies, baetis, and midges.  Good dead drifts, that sometimes have to be repeated several times are still necessary;  and light tippets when trying to coax any rising fish when fishing dries.  This time of year don’t be afraid to throw streamers at the inlet and deeper sections of this small river now, the payoff can be a big brown or rainbow.
