June 4th 2008
South West Miramichi River Report from Doaktown to Quarryville. Salmon are still on the move up and down the river!! In Quarryville there are reports of a couple Grilse being hooked today. And Dale Gildert hooked a salmon by the mouth of Cains River tonight on a green machine. Glen Keenan saw a silver salmon jump and then raised one on a green machine with red butt. Reports at Doaks Fly Shop today is guys are getting a few here and there and are seeing an odd fish moving through. I landed a 3 pound trout tonight and another 1 1/2 pound both on a small brown bomber with white tails. I saw several more trout taking flies off the surface.
Guide Gary Colford fished Moore's Pool on the Cains River this morning and landed a 16 inch trout. He fished for shad tonight above the mouth of Cains River on the SW Miramichi but said there was not allot around.
The winds were out of the SW pretty much all day. And the barometric pressure was holding steady. The water temperature was 60 Celsius. The weather for the next seven days is from 13 C to 24 C. Looks like showers for Saturday afternoon and evening. The high tide for the 7th is at 9:17am at 1.65 meters high.
So far the June fishing has been very good, with trout being hooked up and down the river. And now with very good reports of salmon the last few days being landed. Not to forget the shad! they should be very active in about 4 or 5 more days on the lower stretches of the river.
Flies of choice on the Main South West Miramichi River are as follows 1. Green Machine- Red Butt, 2. Green Machine White Tail, 3. Black Bear-Green Butt, 4. Brown Bomber on the lower stretch.
All for today back tomorrow. Tight Lines.
