I have never been a huge fan of Orvis rods. However, the new Helois is a joy forever. I recently fished an 9 foot, 8 weight. It was light as a feather, casts a mile and is so responsive. It is one of the BEST rods I have ever casted.
I appreciate good gear, but I am a little scrimy. I have never paid more than $500.00 for a graphite rod. Even at the mid $700.00 price range, this rod is worth it. If you have a chance to cast one, you will become a true believer.
