I picked up my new Sage TCR 6 wt. yesterday from the Salty feather and set out to break it in today! My wish came true! I launched at 6:30am with a steady rain overhead. Got to my destination and continued to rain lightly on and off for about an hour. When the rain quite conditions became glassy calm with overcast skys remainding the whole time. So did the gazillion no-see-ums! Nothing was going to stop me from my goal today! I initially did not see many active Reds at all but did see plenty of baitfish around. Then as the tide started coming in around 8am I saw a couple Reds moving around some oysters that were to far away for me to cast. I decided to move into a creek and found some Reds slowly pushing down the mud bank popping schools of tiny shrimp. I had a couple of refusals at first with my Fox Clouser and decided to switch to my black Schlappen Seducer. That was the ticket! 1st cast with it I had this almost over slot Red eat the fly! My new 6 wt. doubled over for a great 1st battle. Mission accomplished! He weighted in at just under 7 lbs. went 26.8". Later on I got another Red that went about 21”- 22”. Have a great week everybody! .... |
