Winter Regulations-Trout Creek to State Line-Catch & Release Only!

Fishing has slowed down considerably with storms rolling in every other day.  On the California side there is ice around the edges and chunks of ice floating down river now.  The Nevada side is fair until you get east of Reno where the water is off color.  With Snow pack levels over 100% in Truckee parking spots are at a premium.  Snowshoes are almost a requirement to get to the river now.  The closer to the state line and into Nevada you go the better the access gets.    Success is being had by dead drifting small midge and nymph imitations under an indicator and action on top has been good on BWO(baetis) or adult midge imitations when fish are rising.  The only way to have success fishing streamers now is very slowly under a full sink line.  Water temps are around 34 degrees through California while temps on the Nevada side are around 36 degrees.  With water temps being this cold takes will be very subtle.  You will now need to concentrate your efforts on the slower stretches of water and deep pools now as fish will be looking to conserve their energy.
