Truckee River: Winter Regulations-Trout Creek to State Line-Catch & Release Only!
With cooler temps expected over the next few days the recent runoff should subside a little. Flows have come down a little and the water clarity is fair now. Flows are currently 385cfs at Truckee, 767cfs at Boca, and 926cfs at Farad. BE VERY CAREFUL IF YOU DECIDE TO WADE!! Throwing a steamer in some slower stretches with a sink tip or full sink line may produce a nice fish this time of year. March Browns are hatching, though there is little top water action, so drift a #12 Pheasant tail or a Burk’s March Brown Nymph. Also the PMD’s are beginning to show, so drifting a variety of PMD patterns will produce. Right now carpenter ants are very active during the day so throwing a variety of ant patterns have been good producers. Sporadic stonefly hatches have been reported during the day so on those breezy days throwing a big stone dry will bring fish to the surface. When the weather warms consistently start fishing your caddis emergers and the short green drake hatch will also happen soon. Water temps are around 48 degrees through California while temps on the Nevada side are around 50 degrees
