Seven (7) Day Fly Fishing Forecast: cold weather coming in; rain ,snow possible

Even though the lakes are full the water has been off the last five days. Rumor has it there has been a drowning down river but this has not been confirmed. There is no logical reason for the water to be off other than something of this nature. We should be seeing 18000cfs to 21000cfs at this time. Shad were just begining to come through the dam and the fish were really keying in on this protein boost when they shut the water off. One thing is for sure; when the water does come through, and a burst of shad show up, there will be some fast action below Bull Shoals dam.

The low water has provided excellent wadeing opportunities throughout the system. There has been a midge explosion and many, many fish are being caught. Stories of 100 fish days are not uncommon right now. The last few days all we have fished are bead head midge patterns in size 16 and 14. No need to fish anything else. Some caddis are showing up down river with the warmer temps. That will probably slow down with cooler weather coming but the hatch is just around the corner. Depends on what happens with the water. Action on the White is really heating up!
