Fishing is getting hot right now. Multiple hatches will make your fly selection an easier task, although the caddisflies are still the prevalent hatch, and seem to be what the fish are largely keyed in on at this point. The clouds of caddis have subsided somewhat, which means that the 'needle in the haystack' predicament of weeks past has lessened....that is to say, you can actually expect fish to see your caddis imitation and eat it rather than just having one more of a billion flies on the water during a feeding frenzy. Giant Salmonflies are on the wing, PMD's are starting, Golden stones are starting to show as well, so it's a virtual potpurri. The flows have stabilized just fine at this point, and while wading the canyon would still be a stretch, the water is in great shape and improving and warming by the minute. The best fishing will still be later in the day, particularly in the upper reaches, but the am is likely worth nymphing, and maybe even the occasional rise can be found. Basically, it's prime time right now, so beat the crowds....be the first on your block...be the ball. Bring x-caddis, some x-caddis, and maybe consider fishing an x-caddis pattern as well, big orange stimulators (#2-4) and/or your favorite salmonfly imitation, PMD's, golden stones...having some nymphal imitations as well as adults keeping in mind that all stoneflies have a lifecycle that lasts several years, so the nymphs are always available to the trout in various sizes shapes colors and species.
