We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again, this is the best time to be on the Yak. Low, clear, wadable water, hungry fish, small bugs, big bugs, beautiful fall colors, big-horn sheep, blah, blah, blah… Just go, it’s better than stomaching Seattle sports anyway. There really isn’t any reason to be on the river before 10am so take your time getting out. Small nymphs like, lightning bugs, red copper johns, tung hunchback baetis among many other choice patterns will take fish all day. Flip-flopping like she’s running for office, the baetis hatch is in one day, out the next. When it’s cloudy midday will bring fish to the surface for small baetis. We’re talking like #18-22 in olive and gray. Sparkle duns, D&D cripples, snowshoe emergers on long leaders and delicate presentations will induce sipping and slurping from jumbos.
